Get Your Puerto Rico Birth Certificate Before July 1, 2010

Normally we cover Puerto Rican travel destinations in this blog,however we need to get the word out to our readers about a very important happening in PR.

Puerto Rican nationals living in the United States will be required to get a new copy of their birth certificates. The country's governor Luis Fortuño made it official that all birth certificates processed prior to December 2009 will be null and void in the eyes of any federal agency.

There is a huge rush anticipated as the deadline for getting a copy of a certificate of birth from Puerto Rico approaches and individuals are advised to start the process for replacing their birth certificates as quickly as possible.

The transition period for people to obtain new birth certificates from Puerto Rico will end July 1, 2010 so you only have a short period of time to get your paperwork in and processed.

In order to get the process started to obtain your Puerto Rican certificate of birth, you will need to contact our offices to start the process to obtain your birth certificate.

[Question from a Reader] Where to Go in Puerto Rico?

I am planning a trip to Puerto Rico..and I wanted to know where are all the hot spots and attractions?

San Juan (the capitol) has some fantastic hot spots such as in El Viejo. Check out El Yunque and the best beaches to visit are in Culebra.
For awesome food with a view check out the mountain restaurant[ in Adjuntas where you will find a top notch eatery called Star Light.

The Cavern at Camuy is outstanding and visit Pinones. Those are just a few of the places to visit - search our blog for more tips!

Visit Ponce Puerto Rico


An hour and a half from San Juan via Highway 52, Ponce is best known for its art museum and its beautifully restored historic district, a showcase of nineteenth century Creole architecture.

One of the best times to visit(besides Carnaval) is during November when the the Fiesta Nacional de Bomba y Plena happens. That's when drummers and dancers gather to compete.

If you want to see the Ponce, make sure to schedule your visit on a wednesday through Sunday as on Mondays and Tuesdays Ponce's cultural and historical institutions are closed.

Must See in Puerto Rico - Fort San Cristobal

Located on the northeast corner of Old San Juan, Fort Cristobal is one of the largest fortresses ever built in the Americas.

Construction commenced in 1634 and the fort was redesigned in the 19th century. With its impressive walls reaching over 100 feet above the crashing waves, its primary function was to guard San Juan against land attacks.

San Cristobal is attached to El Morro by colossal walls filled with cannon-firing positions. Daily free tours are offered in English and in Spanish.

With the age of the structure and the rich history, this is an ideal stop for history buffs in Puerto Rico.

No matter what your religious preferences (if any); a stop by the beautiful Cathedral de San Juan should be on your itinerary if for no other reasons for the the architecture and the history.

A favorite stop for tourists, this marvelous cathedral was built in 1592, on the same site of the previous cathedral that was destroyed by a hurricane around 1584.

Located on Calle Cristo , this gothic and neoclassical structure is situated in front of the historic Hotel El Convento in the heart of Old San Juan, and the Plazuela de Las Monjas .

Besides the cathedral's religious significance, history buffs can view the relics of Ponce de León that are preserved here in a marble crypt.

Located in the southern tip of Old San Juan, this stylish promenade hosted a former Spanish prison, which now houses the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

It offers breathtaking views of the San Juan Bay and is bordered by a huge colonial wall. Several cultural activities are held here throughout the year. Walking the full promenade also offers views of Isla de Cabras , a beautiful small island located in the bay.

The Paseo is the place for an afternoon 'Piragua', a traditional Puerto Rican sweet concoction made from ice and tropical fruit syrups.

This is a family friendly venue and is also great for couples that simply want to walk hand-in-hand and enjoy each other's company.

Must See in Puerto Rico - El Morro

El Morro is located in Antiquo in Puerto Rico and is fast becoming a "must see" destination.

This structure is over 500 years old and truly deserves its place of honor in the National Historic Register. The English and the Dutch attacked the Morro repeatedly in its time and yet, it still stands.

Located on the San Juan Bay , the six-story fort was originally constructed in 1540, although its exterior walls were not erected for another 200 years. Inside the walls is a veritable labyrinth of chambers, barracks, hallways and prison cells. The fort was given a complete facelift in 1992 and tours are given daily throughout the year.

With admission just $3, this is a fun and affordable destination that is good for couples, seniors and even the kiddos will enjoy this destination.
